Cooling stations open at all six senior centers through Friday

With heat indices forecast above 105°F, every senior center is open as a cooling station from 9am, and I-RIDE is running additional trips.

With heat indices forecast above 105°F through Friday, all six senior centers are open as cooling stations from 9:00am, with water and a place to sit for anyone who needs it. You do not need to be enrolled in a program to come in.

I-RIDE is running additional trips to centers during the advisory. Call 757-461-9481 to request a ride; same-day requests will be accommodated where a vehicle is available.

Heat is the most underestimated risk older adults face. Medications for blood pressure and heart conditions can impair the body’s ability to regulate temperature, and many older adults do not feel thirsty until they are already dehydrated.

Please check on an older neighbour today. A knock on the door is a genuinely effective public health intervention.
