A federal 5310 award and local matching funds put four new vehicles on the road, cutting the average wait for a scheduled ride.
Four new wheelchair-accessible vans joined the I-RIDE fleet this month, funded through a federal Section 5310 award with local matching funds from three of our localities.
The practical effect is on wait times. Accessible vehicles have been our tightest constraint for two years; riders needing a lift have routinely waited longer for a scheduled slot than riders who do not. These four vehicles substantially close that gap.
All four are equipped with hydraulic lifts, securement systems for a range of mobility devices, and grab rails positioned for riders with limited grip strength. Drivers have completed passenger assistance training.
To schedule a ride, call 757-461-9481 with at least two business days’ notice. Standing weekly rides for dialysis and other recurring appointments can be set up once and left in place.

With heat indices forecast above 105°F, every senior center is open as a cooling station from 9am, and I-RIDE is running additional trips.
Every plan can change its drug list and its network each year. A free hour with a certified counselor is the cheapest insurance there is.
Call and describe an ordinary day. A resource specialist will work out the rest — including services that belong to other agencies.
