Rights

Senior Advocate Ombudsman

The ombudsman works for the resident. Not the facility, not the family, not the state. The resident.

What you get

Inside Senior Advocate Ombudsman

  • Complaint investigation

We look into concerns about care, dignity, medication, food, staffing and discharge.

  • Resident rights education

Training for residents, families, and facility staff on what the law actually requires.

  • Care plan advocacy

Support at care plan meetings so the resident’s own preferences are heard and recorded.

  • Discharge and transfer appeals

Help when someone is being moved against their wishes or without proper notice.

  • Elder abuse awareness

Community education on recognising and reporting abuse, neglect and financial exploitation.

Who it is for

Residents of long-term care facilities in our service area, their families, and anyone with a concern about care.

How it works

What happens after you call

  1. Call

Describe what you have seen. Nothing is too small to ask about.

  2. We listen and explain your rights

You decide what happens next. We do not act without consent.

  3. We investigate

That usually means visiting, reviewing records and speaking with staff.

  4. We work toward a resolution

And we follow up to make sure the fix actually held.
